About the "Price" criteria in a review

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think the scale for “Price” criteria is a bit confusing.

From the description of the criteria:

Price: product selling price range, 5-point scale

1.Budget-Friendly
2.Affordable
3.Fair
4.Premium
5.Luxury

Instinctively, something expensive would be a 1, because that’s not something “desirable”.

For example, in the Rockwell RealCock 2 review, the Price criteria is 1.0 / 5, but it’s $599, so it’s should be 5 / 5?

What do you think?

To be honest, we’ve had the same thought before
Either it should just list whether a toy is pricey — or ideally show something like price-to-performance value. That would actually be way more helpful sometimes…

Yeah lol! All this time I just ranked products for a value for price. I have rated cheap ones 5 :joy: should I change those ??

agree lol. i’ll talk to my boss about this cuz he’s the head huncho. idk if you all agree, but my natural inclination for that slider is “is the toy worth its price”

I was working on a review and realised all those categories had a scale and different descriptions for each number on the scale

I think it depends on what you want to express.
For example, a cheap dildo at $10 that is amazing could be a 5 / 5 at “Worth the price”, and an expensive and boring dildo could be 1 / 5. I think “Worth the price” would always be equivalent to the overall rating. A 5 / 5 toy would always be 5 / 5 at “Worth the price”, and vice versa. No?

But if you want to express “Luxury” or “High end”, the cheap dildo will be 1 / 5 and the high quality (and presumably expensive) one will be 5 / 5.

I think the current scale (1.Budget-Friendly / 5.Luxury) is closer to a category named “High end” (or something like that).

I’m currently in the process of redesigning this section. My original idea was to give readers a sense of the general price range of the toy — but maybe my wording didn’t quite communicate that clearly.

What do you all think about this?

I’m totally open to updating the wording if there’s a better way to help readers quickly understand the price positioning.

The new setup looks amazing! We really love that you’re rethinking the system.

Price is one that’s been tough for us. A high price doesn’t mean a toy is bad – and some of our absolute 5-star faves are on the luxury end. But right now, it feels like being expensive can automatically hurt the score, even if the toy totally delivers. That’s where we’re torn: if the rating is just about price range, maybe it shouldn’t be in the overall score?

Noise is another one – especially for vibes. We get the idea, but it feels like no vibrator could ever reach a 5, even if it’s super discreet. Plus, not all noise is created equal – some toys are loud but rumbly (still fun), others are shrill and kill the mood. Maybe the 5 is more like: Whisper quiet and non-motorized.

Cleaning is also tricky. We’ve never really felt comfortable giving a toy 5/5 there – because literally every toy needs some cleaning, right? It’s hard to tell what “perfect” cleaning should even look like. Maybe the 5 should be something like: No cleaning or Quick rinse & done – no fuss.

Don’t know if it’s possible. But if you want to include all categories, maybe work with percentages? Something like:

  • Design (15%)
  • Ease of Use (15%)
  • Build & Feel (15%)
  • Experience/Performance (30%)
  • Cleaning & Maintenance (10%)
  • Value for Money (15%)

As for the price or noise level, those are just extra reference points for readers — they’re not factored into the overall toy rating.

Also, just a note — the image above still needs a bit of color adjustment. It’s not the final version yet.

Right now, our overall rating is based on four key criteria, each scored out of 5:

  • Product Design 25%
  • Sensory Quality 25%
  • Ease of Use 25%
  • Ease of Cleaning 25%

Other factors like price or noise level are optional details for readers, but don’t count toward the final score.

I personally think these four criteria already cover everything needed to evaluate whether a toy is good or not.

As for things like price or noise — that really depends on personal context!

For example, in my case, I can’t have any noise at all when using a toy… it would be super awkward! :joy:

I’ve thought long and hard about whether “experience” should be part of the rating system — I even went back and reflected on why I originally removed it when we first launched the site.

Here’s my thinking: since everyone’s body is different, experience can vary a lot from person to person. For example, the fit between someone’s anatomy and the toy — like penis size — can drastically affect how the toy feels. So if we included that in the score, some people might rate it high, others low, just based on that personal factor.

That’s why I ultimately decided to leave “experience” out of the scoring system, and instead encourage users to describe it directly in their written review.

What about “Affordability”?

We had a discussion this afternoon about the naming, and in the end, we felt that “Price Range” and “Noise Level” might better reflect what the current data is actually showing. That said, I really appreciate your input — it definitely helped push the conversation forward! :raising_hands:
