Can We Address the Rating System

Okay, so as it stands, I think that the ToyChats rating system isn’t intuitive and doesn’t align with most people’s expectations of what a numerical rating system is. I feel like if you were to ask most people, the higher the number the “better” the score…e.g. a 1/5 is the ‘worst’ and a 5/5 is the ‘best.’

But that isn’t the case for “easy to use” and “easy to clean.” I feel like both ratings 4 and 5 on “easy to use” are kind of the same thing. And that the whole “easy to clean” rating isn’t very great. Like every single one of my reviews is a 4/5 for cleaning…but that’s because I think you should clean your toy after every use, not because I find difficulty in cleaning them.

The overall scores for toys with components that aren’t waterproof shouldn’t get a 2/5…it’s not that most toys are difficult to clean…It’s just that parts of these toys can’t get wet, which is a shame because I feel like people will just look at the overall score and just base their judgements on that and not look at the rating system.

And I get this question often enough and from some companies that think I’m grading them poorly, but the ratings aren’t ‘worst to best’, it’s every ‘single number has a specific meaning’

And I think this is reflected in other reviews that I’ve seen on the platform. Like how most anal toy reviews give cleaning a 5/5…but does anyone think that they shouldn’t clean off their anal toys after using them?

Perhaps there can be little drop-down scores that don’t negatively effect the overall score but if you want to be more specific and say like “this isn’t waterproof and can’t get wet.”

I agree.

I think having an overall rating that we choose would fix that. So instead of averaging the current choices, the current ones stay as extra information that doesn’t affect the overall rating. Or something in that nature.

As it stands now, technically nothing can be 5/5 unless it’s a one use item of some sort.

We actually do have clear scoring guidelines, but creators still rate things based on their own understanding. We’ve committed to not changing creators’ opinions or scores, which honestly makes this a bit of a headache.

There isn’t a great solution right now, but we’ll bring this up for a second round of internal discussion and see if we can come up with a better approach.

My personal suggestion is this: while we haven’t adjusted the scoring system yet, I think it’s best for you to clearly explain your opinions in the review content itself.

Once we have internal proposals for changes, we’ll come back and ask everyone for feedback. For now, we’re not able to make adjustments, since this affects a lot of existing reviews.
