I splurg when it comes to my toy cleaner. I get the “Intamate Earth” tea tree organic foam cleaner. It really does well to clean and get the smell from anal play. It’s a bit pricey at $24. And sometimes hard to find. So I back stock on it when I can get it on sale.
I don’t worry too much about that, to be honest — I usually just use soap, as long as it’s alcohol-free!
Here are some key pointers to keep in mind:
- Avoid using alcohol-based or harsh chemical cleaners, as they can damage the silicone material and cause it to become sticky or brittle.
- Mild soap and warm water are usually enough, or you can use a dedicated toy cleaner as long as it’s gentle and non-irritating.
- For toys with motors or electrical parts, don’t fully submerge them — just wipe down the areas that need cleaning.
- Make sure to let the toy dry completely before storing it to prevent moisture buildup and bacteria growth.
- Don’t store silicone toys in contact with other materials like TPE or PVC, as they can react and stick together over time.
If your toy is made of 100% medical-grade silicone, it’s generally more durable — but good cleaning habits still matter!
tbh, you don’t really need a special toy cleaner. All you need is an antibacterial, unscented soap that does NOT have silicone as an ingredient. A lot of indie toy companies recommend Dawn dish soap. Just keep an eye on the soap you’re buying, as a lot of handsoaps do have silicone in them.
for a deeper clean, you can soak a toy in a 1:10 bleach:water mixture (as long as the toy is waterproof submersible). For non-motorized silicone toys, you can also boil them for a few minutes making sure they don’t touch the bottom or sides of the pot, or run them through the dishwasher on a sanitize setting without detergent.
Most of my toys just need some soap, water, and a good towel dry!
These are all really helpful tips.
