As a former adult store manager, I am very picky about my lube and there are several things that every toy-lover ought to know!
Water-based lube is the best place to start because it’s compatible with all types of play and all types of toys! Water-based lube may become sticky or tacky as it becomes absorbed into your skin and it may need to be reapplied so don’t be surprised when it dries up with friction, especially manual or anal play. Good waterbased lube should be non-staining and easy to clean up.
Silicone lube tends to be the longest lasting. Oftentimes silicone lubes are NOT COMPATIBLE with silicone toys so be sure you read the labels on toys and lubes so you don’t ruin your collection. High quality silicone lube is hypoallergenic, flavorless, scentless, and nonsticky.
Hybrid lube tries to be the best of both worlds and does a pretty good job at coming close being both natural feeling and long lasting. It often resembles a creamy white consistency so some people like to use it as a cum lube.
