How to Start Writing Your First Review! ✍🏻

Hello ToyChat Community  !

I am so impressed by all the amazing content that is being put out by reviewers on our site. In order to demystify the writing process, I wanted to share some tips and tricks on how to start your first review!

It’s easy to masturbate, but when you put pen to paper about the experience it can be daunting. If that’s the case, feel free to share that in your review. Start off with something that goes like, “This is my virgin voyage into sex toy reviewing, and honestly, I’m more nervous about this write-up than I was about the actual research.” This establishes a connection with the audience and is a great transition into talking about what you liked or disliked about the product.

Write as if you’re talking to a friend

  • You don’t need to make your writing sound academic, you can be crude, real, nitty gritty, and honest in your reviews. Compelling content starts with genuine and authentic writing that stems from a place of truth.

Feel free to yap

  • I am a certified yapper, and that’s what makes writing sex toy reviews super fun! Since we ask that you create content with a minimum of 5 pictures and 800 words (for written reviews), and 4 minutes of content (for video reviews), it means that we want you to go crazy on your product descriptions and overall feelings about the product.

Some Topics to Consider When Writing

  • Size dimensions and weight for practical reference
  • Intended use and target audience
  • Temperature retention or warming characteristics
  • Power levels, vibration patterns, or relevant features
  • Any design flaws or improvements needed
  • Travel-friendliness
  • Address accessibility considerations for different bodies/abilities
  • Review from different relationship contexts (solo, partnered, long-distance)
  • Describe the “personality” or “vibe” of the product
  • Before/after expectation vs. reality comparisons
  • Pros/cons lists with unexpected categories (“zombie apocalypse readiness”)

There are so many ways to make your writing pop, and once you begin writing it will get easier and easier the more you do it!

Happy Writing

To begin all you need to do after applying to be a reviewer is click on the “write a review” icon on the top right of your screen and get to writing!
